Sanctuary: A private space for the living

Sanctuary is a private personal space for a living member: somewhere quieter than the fast-moving, performative, and often overwhelming parts of the internet.

It is a place to pause, breathe, and return to yourself.

Life can bring change, loss, pressure, uncertainty, responsibility, joy, grief, and unexpected turns. At times, those experiences can leave people feeling scattered, disconnected, or unsure of who they are and where they are going.

Sanctuary is intended to be a place of return.

It gives a member space to slow down, reflect on their life journey, keep close what matters, and reconnect with the values, memories, relationships, hopes, and experiences that help them feel centred. It is a place to recognise where they have been, understand where they are now, and consider the path ahead—if and when they choose.

Sanctuary is not designed to demand disclosure, measure productivity, or tell someone how they should feel. It does not ask a person to present a polished version of their life. It is a member's own space to reflect honestly, gather their thoughts, remember what matters, and rediscover the parts of themselves that everyday life may have pushed into the background.

For some people, Sanctuary may become a place to keep memories and make plans. For others, it may simply be a quiet place to visit when they need to feel grounded, reflect on what they are carrying, or remind themselves of who they are.

A place to anchor yourself

Life rarely moves in a straight line. People change, recover, begin again, lose people, build relationships, face setbacks, celebrate milestones, carry regrets, and discover that their priorities have shifted.

Sanctuary is intended to make room for that reality.

It can help a member create a personal point of return: a place that holds reminders of their values, meaningful moments, sources of strength, hopes for the future, and the people or experiences that have shaped them.

When life feels noisy or uncertain, a member may return to Sanctuary to ask:

• What matters most to me right now?
• What has shaped me, and what do I want to carry forward?
• What helps me feel steady, connected, and like myself?
• Am I living in a way that feels true to my values?
• What relationships, responsibilities, hopes, or dreams need more care?
• What have I learned from the difficult parts of my life?
• What would I like the next part of my life to hold?

Sanctuary should not judge the answers or insist that a person has everything figured out. Its purpose is to offer a respectful place in which someone can reflect, regain perspective, and choose their next steps with greater intention.

What a member may use Sanctuary for

• Reflecting on life experiences, personal history, values, changes, and milestones.
• Reconnecting with the memories, people, places, beliefs, and experiences that help them feel anchored.
• Recording thoughts, questions, learning, hopes, gratitude, worries, or difficult moments.
• Keeping meaningful photographs, stories, reflections, and personal notes close.
• Noticing how they have changed over time and recognising their own growth, resilience, or unfinished questions.
• Returning to what feels important during a period of change, uncertainty, joy, grief, loneliness, or reflection.
• Organising thoughts that feel difficult to hold all at once.
• Considering future goals, relationships, intentions, and personal plans at the member's own pace.
• Choosing, if and when appropriate, to connect selected memories with broader legacy or practical-planning tools.

Sanctuary Journal

Sanctuary Journal is intended to give members a private place to put their thoughts into words.

Some things become clearer when we write them down. A member may use the journal to record what they are feeling, learning, remembering, questioning, reading, hoping for, or trying to understand.

A journal entry does not have to be polished, shared, or written regularly. It might be a few words, a long reflection, a note to a future self, a record of a meaningful moment, or a place to organise thoughts that feel difficult to hold all at once.

It is intended for everyday reflection as much as for significant life events. A member may write about ideas, experiences, relationships, goals, gratitude, loss, change, memories, or anything else that matters to them.

Cherished Moments and personal photographs

Sanctuary is intended to include Cherished Moments: meaningful memories a member may choose to revisit when they want to return to them.

These may include photographs, written reflections, personal milestones, stories, or other reminders of what has mattered in a person's life. They are intended to appear as a private gallery or wall within the relevant Sanctuary or Memorial—not as a public social-media feed.

A member should be able to mute, snooze, reorganise, or disable memories without having to explain why. The meaning of a photograph or memory can change over time, and Sanctuary should respect that.

Privacy and sharing choices

Sanctuary content is private by default. A member should never have to share a photograph, memory, journal entry, or reflection in order to use the space.

The intended privacy choices for individual journal entries, photographs, and memories include:

• Only me — this device: kept only on the member's current device and not uploaded to T.A.E.I.L.
• Only me — private sync: available to the member on their own authorised devices through an intended encrypted sync service.
• Specific people: shared only with individuals the member personally selects.
• A private circle: shared with a member-created group, such as a family, friendship, or care circle.
• Wider sharing: an optional future choice for material a member deliberately wishes to share more broadly, subject to appropriate consent, safeguards, and any required review.

"Family" and "friends" must not create automatic access rights. They should be member-created lists, controlled by the member—not platform assumptions about who is entitled to see someone's private life.

Members should be able to review who has access to any shared item, remove access later, and change an item's setting from shared back to private. Removing access can prevent future platform access, but it cannot erase a copy that another person has already downloaded, saved, or captured outside the platform.

Private and local-only storage

The intended Sanctuary model distinguishes between private content and local-only content.

Private content means that other people cannot see it. A member may choose to keep private content synchronised across their own authorised devices.

Local-only content means the member chooses not to upload the content to T.A.E.I.L. at all. For example, a member may choose to keep a journal entry or photograph only on the phone, tablet, or computer where it was created.

Local-only storage gives the member more direct control, but it brings an important responsibility: if a device is lost, damaged, reset, or its app data is deleted, T.A.E.I.L. may not be able to recover that content.

Private encrypted sync is an intended future option for members who want their own content available across approved devices. The detailed encryption, recovery, storage, and device-authorisation design remains subject to privacy, security, technical, accessibility, safeguarding, and legal review.

Personal, private, and member-led

A Sanctuary should feel more like a personal retreat than a public profile.

The eventual design may allow members to shape the atmosphere of their space through chosen words, memories, images, reflections, cultural or spiritual references, and accessible low-stimulation views. Exact visual and technical design remains to be developed responsibly.

No person should receive access merely because they are a family member, friend, partner, follower, or someone with a link. Any access must be deliberately chosen by the member, limited to the purpose approved, capable of being withdrawn, recorded appropriately, and protected by proper platform permissions.

Not only about death

Sanctuary is connected to T.A.E.I.L.'s longer-term work around memory, legacy, preparation, and care. But it is first a space for living.

A member does not need to be preparing for death, sharing personal information, writing future messages, or creating a public legacy in order to benefit from Sanctuary. They may use it simply to reflect on ordinary life, hold meaningful memories, celebrate growth, make sense of a difficult time, or reconnect with what gives life meaning.

What Sanctuary is not

• It is not therapy, diagnosis, clinical treatment, or a replacement for professional mental-health support.
• It is not a crisis line, emergency service, welfare-check guarantee, or a way to confirm that someone is safe.
• It is not a legal service, a will, estate administration, or a guarantee that personal wishes are legally enforceable.
• It is not a public social-media profile designed for likes, follower counts, attention, or performance.
• It is not an obligation to disclose intimate details, share memories, prepare for death, or create a public legacy.

Memorial: A lasting space to remember and celebrate

Memorial is intended to be a lasting space where the people who loved someone can visit, remember, and celebrate a life that mattered.

It is not designed to replace grief, rush it, or resolve it. It is intended as a place to return to — much as Sanctuary is a place of return for the living — so that meaningful moments, words, and memories are not lost to time or scattered across different platforms and devices.

What a Memorial may hold

A Memorial is intended to bring together the different ways people remember someone, in one respectful, private-by-default space:

• Photographs and videos that capture meaningful moments from the person's life.
• Memorable words — quotes, sayings, letters, or reflections that feel true to who the person was.
• An obituary or life story, written by the member, their Caretaker, or family, describing the person's life and legacy.
• Condolences that visitors leave for the people who are grieving.

A Memorial is intended to feel like a considered tribute rather than an open comment feed. It should hold what matters, not everything that is submitted.

Member and Caretaker control over what is kept

The intended design gives the member — or, where a Memorial is created after a loss, the designated Caretaker acting within the member's recorded permissions — control over what actually appears on the Memorial.

Photographs, videos, memorable words, and the obituary are intended to be added or curated by the member or Caretaker, not automatically published from any outside source.

Condolences left by visitors are intended to be reviewed before they are shown, so that the Caretaker can choose whether to keep, hide, or decline a particular message. Nothing a visitor leaves should appear on a Memorial without the Caretaker's approval.

Not a public social-media feed

A Memorial is intended to appear as a private or permission-based space rather than a public, algorithm-driven, or advertising-supported feed. It should not use likes, follower counts, ranking, or engagement-driven visual design.

Exactly who can visit a Memorial, leave a condolence, or view specific photographs and videos is intended to be governed by the same kind of member-created, permission-based access used elsewhere on T.A.E.I.L. — never by an assumption that family, friendship, or a shared link creates automatic access.

Connected to Sanctuary and Cherished Moments

A Memorial may be created directly after a loss, or carried forward from a member's own Sanctuary when death is appropriately confirmed. Photographs, videos, and reflections kept in Cherished Moments during a person's life may become part of the memories a Caretaker chooses to include in their Memorial, subject to the member's earlier instructions and permissions.

What Memorial is not

• It is not a public profile designed for likes, follower counts, attention, or performance.
• It is not an open forum where anyone can post unmoderated content about the person who has died.
• It is not a legal record of a person's life, an official obituary registry, or a substitute for formal estate or death-registration processes.
• It is not a guarantee that every submitted photograph, video, message, or condolence will be included — inclusion remains the member's or Caretaker's choice.

Message from the Afterlife

Message from the Afterlife is intended to let a member prepare a video, audio, written, or photo-based message today, for delivery at a future moment that matters — a birthday, a wedding, a milestone the member may not be present for, or the confirmed moment of their own death.

Its purpose is simple and human: to help a person leave words, stories, encouragement, or care for a time when their voice might otherwise be missing. It is not designed to promise a particular emotional outcome, and it is not a substitute for the relationships and presence a member can offer today.

How a message may be released

A member is intended to choose the condition that triggers delivery — a specific date, a life milestone, a recurring occasion, or confirmed death — and to choose exactly who receives it. Nothing is intended to be released automatically without meeting the member's chosen condition and passing the platform's required verification.

Release is intended to require robust verification, documented consent, and clear recipient identification before any message reaches anyone. A message a member is no longer comfortable with is intended to remain editable or cancellable by the member while they are living, for as long as that remains technically and legally possible.

Built around consent and recipient choice

A message is intended to be something a recipient can receive with dignity, not something forced upon them. Recipient choice, safeguarding review, and dispute-handling are intended to be built into how a message is delivered, including consideration for a recipient who may not wish to receive it, or who may need support around receiving it.

The feature is intended to guard against harmful or coercive content, and to take long-term preservation and format accessibility seriously, so a message prepared today can still be understood and experienced with care whenever it is eventually delivered.

What Message from the Afterlife is not

• It is not a guarantee of a particular emotional outcome, reaction, or sense of closure for the person who receives it.
• It is not therapy, crisis support, or a substitute for present-day relationships and communication.
• It is not estate administration, a legal document, or a substitute for a will or formal instructions.

Cherished Moments: Keeping what matters close

Cherished Moments is a feature for the living. It is intended to give a member a gentle, private place to gather the photographs, videos, and journal entries that hold real meaning — not everything that happened, but the moments that still matter.

It lives inside a member's Sanctuary, and it can also become part of a Memorial when the time comes. The same cherished photograph of a shared meal, the same shaky video of a child's first steps, the same quiet journal entry written on a hard night, can move with a member through both spaces: kept close while they are living, and carried forward, if they choose, into how they are remembered.

A place to return to, not just a place to store

Cherished Moments is not designed to be a backup drive or a photo dump. It is intended as a living archive a member can revisit on purpose — to reflect, to remember, to feel something again.

A memory that mattered once can be easy to lose in the noise of everyday life: buried in a camera roll, scattered across old messages, forgotten in a drawer. Cherished Moments is intended to give those moments a home where a member can find them again, exactly when they need them.

A member might return to Cherished Moments to:

• Re-live a memory that still makes them smile, or still brings them comfort.
• Sit with a moment that was hard, and notice how far they have come since.
• Remember who they were at a particular point in their life, and see how they have grown.
• Reconnect with a person, a place, or a feeling they do not want to lose touch with.
• Ground themselves in what matters before making a decision about where they are going next.

Reflecting on where you have been, where you are, and where you are going

Memory is one of the ways people understand their own lives. Looking back at who a member was — what they cared about, who they loved, what they were afraid of, what they overcame — can offer a kind of clarity that is hard to find in the middle of ordinary, forward-moving days.

Cherished Moments is intended to support that kind of reflection directly. By keeping meaningful photographs, videos, and journal entries together and easy to revisit, it is designed to help a member trace their own path: to see where they have been, recognise where they are now, and think more clearly about where they want to go.

It is not about dwelling in the past. It is about letting the past inform the present, gently and on the member's own terms.

Fond memories, held with care

Not every memory carries the same weight, and Cherished Moments is not designed to treat them as though it does. A member may choose to keep a memory that is simply joyful — a laugh, a celebration, an ordinary afternoon that turned out to matter more than it seemed at the time.

They may also choose to keep a memory that carries grief, growth, or complicated feeling alongside the fondness. Cherished Moments is intended to hold both without judgment, and without requiring a member to explain or justify why a moment matters to them.

As a member's life continues and their relationship to a memory changes, they are intended to be able to revisit, reorganise, mute, or remove any Cherished Moment, without needing to give a reason. Meaning is allowed to shift. Cherished Moments is designed to move with it, not against it.

Connected to Sanctuary and Memorial

Because Cherished Moments lives within a member's Sanctuary, it is part of the same private, member-led space used for reflection and grounding — governed by the same permission-based, member-controlled access as the rest of Sanctuary.

When a Memorial is created after a loss, or carried forward from a member's own Sanctuary when death is appropriately confirmed, the photographs, videos, and reflections a member kept in Cherished Moments during their life may become part of what a Caretaker chooses to include — subject entirely to the member's earlier instructions and permissions. A fond memory kept privately while living can become part of how someone is lovingly remembered, but only if and how the member chose.

What Cherished Moments is not

• It is not a public gallery, social-media feed, or anything designed for likes, follower counts, attention, or performance.
• It is not an obligation to document a life, curate a highlight reel, or keep any particular memory once it no longer feels meaningful.
• It is not therapy, clinical treatment, or a replacement for professional mental-health support, even though reflecting on memory can be part of emotional wellbeing.
• It is not a guarantee of permanence for any single memory — a member remains free to mute, hide, or delete what they have kept, at any time, without explanation.

This Cherished Moments description reflects the founder's current direction, recorded September 14, 2026. The Passing Notification Network

The Passing Notification Network is intended to be a member-defined, tiered notification arrangement that helps the people a member trusts learn of their death with clarity and gentleness, once that death has been properly confirmed.

Its purpose is practical compassion. Telling people that someone has died is one of the heaviest tasks grief can hand to a single person. This feature is intended to share that weight, so it does not fall entirely on one grieving family member or friend.

How a notification journey may work

A member is intended to be able to define their own tiers of recipients — for example, immediate family, close friends, and a wider circle — and prepare what each tier receives: a written note, a personal video, practical information, and appropriate links to the member's Memorial, condolence options, and relevant support pathways.

Notifications are intended to go out only after a death has been properly verified, never on assumption, rumour, or a single unverified report. Recipient permissions are intended to govern who is notified and how, respecting any preferences the member has documented in advance.

Built on consent, not convenience

This feature is intended to never bypass consent, issue unverified announcements, expose sensitive information without permission, or override a member's lawful or documented preferences about who should and should not be told, and in what way.

It is designed to make sure that when people do need to be told difficult news, someone has already thought carefully about how, in what order, and with what care — instead of leaving that entirely to whoever happens to be nearby in a moment of crisis.

What the Passing Notification Network is not

• It is not a way to announce a death before it has been properly confirmed.
• It is not a guarantee that every practical or emotional burden of telling people is removed — it is intended to reduce that burden, not eliminate it.
• It is not a substitute for a family's own wishes about how and by whom certain people should be told.
• It is not a public announcement tool — it is intended to reach only the specific people a member has chosen, in the way the member has chosen.

When the Time Comes

When the Time Comes is intended to be a plain-language place to leave practical guidance for the people a member trusts, so there is less for them to guess at during an already difficult time.

It is meant to hold the kind of information that is easy to postpone and hard to reconstruct later: trusted contacts, personal wishes, the location of important documents, digital-account information, and who the member has designated as their Point Person, sometimes shown to members under the warmer label Caretaker.

What a member may prepare

A member is intended to be able to record the practical things they would want someone to know: who to contact first, what their wishes are for their belongings and affairs, where key documents can be found, which digital accounts exist and how they should be handled, and who they trust to help coordinate those decisions.

After a member's death has been verified, this information is intended to become available as a care-coordination view for the member's designated Point Person or Caretaker, within whatever permissions the member set in advance — never automatically, and never beyond the scope the member chose.

Practical care, clearly bounded

This feature is designed to reduce avoidable confusion and logistical burden for the people left behind, not to replace the legal and professional processes a death may still require.

It is intended to sit alongside a member's real legal and financial planning, not instead of it — a place for plain-language guidance and personal wishes, separate from formal legal instruments.
